When Is the Best Time of Year to Order a Modular Building?

July 4, 2025

If you're thinking about adding a greenhouse, garden shed, animal shelter, or utility building to your property, timing can make a big difference. While modular buildings can be delivered and installed year-round, choosing the right season to place your order can save you time, reduce stress, and help ensure your project goes exactly as planned.

So, when is the best time of year to order a modular building? Let’s break it down.

Spring: The Busiest Season (Plan Early!)

Spring is the most popular time to order modular buildings—and for good reason. As the weather warms up, homeowners, gardeners, and homesteaders start preparing for the growing season and tackling outdoor projects.

Why Spring Is Popular:

  • Perfect for installing greenhouses and sheds before peak planting
  • Ideal weather for delivery and site preparation
  • Aligns with spring cleaning and backyard improvements

Tip: If you’re thinking about a spring delivery, order in late winter or early spring to beat the rush and avoid long lead times.

Summer: Great for Outdoor Projects

Summer offers long daylight hours and warm, dry weather—ideal conditions for deliveries, installations, and DIY site prep.

Why Summer Works Well:

  • Easier to coordinate construction and landscaping
  • Great for adding storage for lawn equipment, tools, or animal feed
  • Perfect time to upgrade existing shelters before fall and winter

Note: Summer can be busy, too. Planning ahead (by early summer) ensures you get on the schedule when you want.

Fall: A Smart Time to Prep for Winter

Fall is often overlooked, but it's a strategic time to order a modular building—especially if you want to avoid the spring rush or protect your tools, animals, or plants before cold weather sets in.

Why Fall Is a Great Choice:

  • Less demand = shorter wait times
  • Ideal for ordering animal shelters ahead of winter
  • Great for prepping gardening spaces for next year

Bonus: You’ll have everything ready to go when spring rolls around again.

Winter: Slower Season, But Still Possible

Ordering in winter is absolutely possible—especially for planning ahead or taking advantage of slower production schedules—but weather can be a factor.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Snow, ice, and frozen ground may delay deliveries in some areas
  • It’s the best time to place orders for early spring delivery
  • Ideal for custom orders that require longer lead times

If you're thinking ahead: Winter is the best time to plan, customize, and secure your spot before the busy season begins.

So, When Should You Order?

The best time to order a modular building depends on your timeline and how you plan to use it. Here’s a quick guide:

  • Greenhouse ready for spring - Late winter
  • Summer project or storage - Spring
  • Shelter before winter - Late summer or early fall
  • Custom build, no rush - Winter

Getting Ready: How to Prep Your Site for Your New Greenhouse You’ve ordered your greenhouse—how exciting! Whether you’re planning to grow veggies all year long, start seeds in the spring, or finally give your plants a warm home of their own, you’re about to create something special . We’re so glad you chose NW Green Panels to help make it happen. Our greenhouses are designed to go up quickly and last a long time—but first, we need a good spot to set everything up. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you get your space ready before we deliver and install your new greenhouse. 1. Pick the Perfect Spot Start by walking around your yard. Look for a place that: Gets lots of sun —at least 6 hours a day Stays pretty dry (no puddles after it rains) Is easy to reach with our truck and trailer If possible, face the long side of the greenhouse east to west —that way your plants get light all day long! 2. Make Sure the Ground is Flat and Firm Your greenhouse doesn’t need a fancy foundation, but it does need a level spot. Here are a few good options: Gravel pad – the most common and budget-friendly choice Concrete piers or blocks – good for long-term use Concrete slab or pavers – if you want a super smooth floor Whatever you go with, make sure it’s flat, not sloped , and doesn’t hold water. 3. Double-Check the Size Before we arrive, it’s helpful to have about a foot or two of extra space around the greenhouse. That gives us room to work and helps with future maintenance or cleaning. We’ll send you the measurements ahead of time—so you’ll know exactly how big the footprint will be. 4. Clear a Path for Delivery We’ll be bringing your greenhouse panels on a trailer, so we need a clear path to get to your setup site. Here’s what helps: Move any lawn furniture, toys, or garden tools Trim any branches that hang too low Make sure gates or walkways are at least 6–8 feet wide If there’s anything tricky about your property, just let us know—we’ve seen it all and are happy to plan ahead. 5. Thinking About Power or Water? Planning to add lights, fans, or a watering system? It’s much easier to run those lines before the greenhouse is up. If you’re working with an electrician or plumber, now’s the time to have them set things up. And if you’re not sure where things should go—we’re happy to give some advice. 6. Sit Back and Let Us Do the Heavy Lifting Once everything is ready, we’ll bring the panels and get your greenhouse assembled—usually in just a day or two. You don’t need to lift a finger. Just have your space clear, your site prepped, and maybe a chair nearby so you can watch it all come together (coffee and cameras welcome!). Let’s Get Growing We know starting a project like this can feel like a big step—but we’re here to walk you through it. If you have questions, or you’re still figuring out where your greenhouse should go, give us a call. We’re real people, happy to help however we can. Why You Should Choose Cedar for Your Greenhouse When it comes to choosing the right materials for a greenhouse, durability and resilience are key factors. A greenhouse needs to withstand the elements while providing a reliable, stable environment for your plants. At NW Green Panels, we understand the importance of quality and longevity, which is why we craft our greenhouses from Western Red Cedar — a material that offers unmatched durability and aesthetic appeal. The Unmatched Durability of Cedar Western Red Cedar is renowned for its strength and resilience, especially in outdoor settings where structures face constant exposure to moisture, wind, and varying temperatures. Unlike other woods, cedar has a natural resistance to rot, decay, and insect damage, making it ideal for greenhouse construction. This natural durability extends the life of a cedar greenhouse significantly, ensuring that your investment remains strong and stable year after year. Additionally, cedar wood contains natural oils that act as preservatives, preventing warping and cracking over time. This unique property allows it to withstand both intense sunlight and heavy rain, meaning that it won’t weaken or degrade, even in the harshest climates. With a cedar greenhouse, you can rest assured that you have a structure built to stand the test of time, weathering the elements gracefully. Cedar’s Insulating Properties One of cedar's unique advantages is its impressive thermal insulation. Compared to other wood types, cedar helps maintain a more consistent temperature within the greenhouse. This thermal insulation is particularly beneficial for gardeners, as it allows for better temperature control, promoting healthier plant growth. By choosing cedar, you’re choosing a material that not only protects your plants from external weather conditions but also creates a stable, nurturing environment inside the greenhouse. Cedar’s Eco-Friendly Benefits For eco-conscious gardeners, cedar is an excellent choice. As a renewable resource, cedar can be sustainably harvested, and its long lifespan means fewer resources are required for repairs or replacements. Cedar’s natural preservatives reduce the need for chemical treatments, making it a safer, more environmentally friendly choice. Choosing a cedar greenhouse allows you to make an eco-friendly choice without sacrificing quality or durability. Cedar’s Natural Beauty and Timeless Appeal Cedar’s natural, rich color and fine texture give greenhouses an attractive, classic appearance that blends seamlessly into any landscape. Over time, cedar develops a beautiful silver-gray patina, adding a rustic charm to your garden without any additional maintenance. This natural aesthetic not only enhances the visual appeal of your greenhouse but also elevates the look of your entire outdoor space. Why Choose NW Green Panels for Your Cedar Greenhouse? At NW Green Panels, we take pride in crafting high-quality cedar greenhouses designed to last for generations. Our skilled team combines precision with premium materials to deliver greenhouses that are both functional and beautiful.
